Words Matter. Yep, earth-shattering right? Words Matter.
You know the words you speak to others matter. You know that the words you speak have the power to build others up or tear them down. Finally, if you have been reading along with us, you also know that what you say to yourself matters.
All of the above is true. And:
Did you know that EVERY word you speak out loud is heard by your brain as if you were speaking to yourself? and your brain believes your voice is speaking the truth.
That’s right, the voice that has the most power to your brain is YOUR OWN. When you speak venom or disappointment about someone else, or something else, your brain allows the words to leave your mouth, enter your ears and become your brain’s “own truth” about YOU.
How might this play out? Well, let’s take Shane’s example from a few days ago. I am driving along and someone cuts me off, tailgates me in traffic or simply honks at me for no reason. I can guess the words I might speak out loud. The old me would have said out loud, “you jerk”, “you idiot” or, well, you get the picture. I KNOW, I’m not proud.
Then I learned this truth. I am very careful of all the words I say. Does this mean I’m perfect and only say positive, uplifting things? – of course it does. Have you heard me say any other type of things? (shh. don’t answer that.)
Remember, from now on, Words Matter. How will you change what your brain hears about YOU?
