Great Expectations!

What do you expect today?

Do you expect great things to happen to you?
Do you expect to have a hard day?
Are you excited for the day ahead?
Maybe you are sure today is going to be Fun and Easy?

A quick story.  One morning after stopping by my favorite place to get a cup of coffee, tragedy struck  (well, ok, it was an Americano, and who’s counting shots anyway?!).  I was opening the door of the office and I dropped my coffee cup.  It was a total loss, not one sip.

Now for those of you who know me, you know that was not a great way to start my morning.  However, I made a choice in that moment.  I decided it was still going to be a great day and I would expect great things to happen.  Only a few years ago I might have let myself think that spilled coffee was an indicator for the rest of the day!!!  Not anymore!

Here’s the thing.  What you think about most, you create more of in your life.  What you focus on expands.  I know, if you haven’t thought much about this, you might be wondering if that’s really possible.  Well, I am here to tell you it is true.

Expect great things and you are generally upbeat and happy, so other happy people tend to come closer to you.  People who choose to be grouchy will often  steer clear of that happy person.  Happy people attract other happy people.

Maybe this is easier to see:
If a challenge comes up and I expect tough, hard things, well then, I have confirmation.
If a challenge comes up and I expect great things, its just no big deal.  It certainly won’t ruin my day.  Let’s face it, dumped coffee didn’t, nothing will.

For those of you who count the Bible as The Truth, here’s extra encouragement.
9-10 Love from the center of who you are; don’t fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.
11-13 Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.  Romans 12:9-13 (The Message)

SO, what are you EXPECTING today?
